Any extreme weather condition–be it hot or cold can damage your skin and the battle for healthy skin begins. And as we all know winter season is not good for the skin. Cold weather and low humidity levels result in dry air. And this dry air takes away the thin layer of oil that traps moisture in the skin, which then snips moisture away from the skin, widening itchy and painful conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and severely dry skin. Without immediate care, dry skin can lead to cracking and bleeding, and winter makes the problem worse. You can protect your skin with these simple face care tips for winter.

Additional moisture helps, but you need to do much more to reduce these effects and keep skin looking youthful and smooth. And to reduce chapping, redness, itching, and keep skin more healthy and comfortable this season, here are a few simple winter care tips for your face that you can follow to avoid excessive dryness.


Cleansing is the first step that should be followed, no matter which product you use. But during winters, you can reduce the number of times you wash your face, to 2 times or 1 time a day. You can cleanse your face with cold milk and cotton ball to prevent excessive dryness and choose lukewarm water instead of hot water to avoid the removal of oil from the skin.


Moisturizers are very effective during winter as it keeps the skin hydrated from the dryness and stiffness of your skin.  In winters, it is necessary to keep your skin smooth and supple, and moisturizers are the perfect solution. During winter, the skin needs more moisture which helps to dryness from the skin. It is better to go with moisturizers that are made up of all-natural ingredients.

Keep yourself hydrated

To keep your body and skin hydrated in dry weather, it is essential to drink water. Being hydrated ensures your skin remains glowing. Drinking water makes your skin healthy and moisturized. Our bodies are comprised mostly of water, and we need to take in a large quantity of water each day to replenish what we lose through sweat, waste, and energy.

Eat a healthy diet

Your skin’s health depends on a variety of factors, one of which is the diet that is consumed by you. Eating a healthy diet is important for your skin and body. Consuming the right balance of nutrients can improve the health of your skin. Try to have a diet that is high in omega-3s and DHA, selenium, healthy oils like nuts, olive oil, and coconut oil along with antioxidants which can reduce damage to the skin.


Dry skin can also often leads to clogged pores and breakouts. This is why you need to use toner in winter. During winter it is important to use mild toners that cleanse your pores, remove excess oil, and leave your skin moisturized.

Protect your skin from Sun

Even, during winter the UV rays can damage your skin and you should think about winter sun protection. So, it is better to never miss sunscreen and don’t forget to keep your face, neck, and hands protected from the sun’s harmful rays.


It is better to exfoliate your skin when it looks dull, dry, sallow, or grey. We generally forget to remove dead skin cells in the winter, which can cause the skin to look dull. Find an exfoliating mask and use it on your face and your hands, as well as gently on your lips, then follow immediately with moisture to truly see a smoother difference. Exfoliating body washes are also helpful in the winter months.

Take care of your lips

As lips are more gentle and tend to become dry and cracked due to dehydration, harsh winter winds, and dry air. To take care of your lips, use lip balm every day and try to avoid matte lipsticks as they tend to dry out the skin, and use glossy or shiny lipsticks as they are hydrating.   Don’t lick your lips. As many people do but it increases irritation by drying your lips further as your saliva evaporates. Use lip balm if you feel the urge to lick your lips.
